Below are sample itineraries that showcase some of Bali's most widely known attractions. While I recommend these, I am also happy to show you the rest of Bali that lives on beyond popular tourist destinations.

p can easily combine these world-famous sites with the less explored "back road" Bali.These itineraries are completely customizable, either in terms of planning or on the spot while your trip is taking place. If you suddenly decide to linger over lunch in Kintamani and forego the wood-carver's village, then we change the itinerary. No problem.
That said, here are some suggested trip outlines you can use as a starting point for creating your own Bali adventure.
Mount Batur Trip
The first excursion encompasses the spectacular scenery of Mount Batur and the beautiful artistry of Bali's artisans.
The scenery is unparalleled, from the drive through Bali's beautiful countryside to the impossibly gorgeous views from the mile-high mountain village of Kintamani. The view is of Mount Batur, one of Bali's three active volcanoes, and of Lake Batur, which is formed by rainwater in the mountain's caldera.
Either on the way there or back (or both!) we can visit the villages of Celuk, Mas and Batubulan to see Bali's famous silverworkers, wood carvers and dancers, respectively. The excursion can also include time in Ubud, where art galleries and craft shops abound as well as the temple of Tirta Empul in Tampaksiring and the combination Buddhist/Hindu hermitage at Goa Gaja (Elephant Cave).
Besakih Temple Trip
The "Mother Temple" at Besakih, almost millennia old and one kilometer above sea level on the slopes of Mount Agung, is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia and one of Bali's holiest places.
On the way to or from the temple, we can visit a weaving factory, a painting school and the walled village of Tenganan. The "bustling town" (relative to Bali) of Candi Dasa is a nice place for a seaside meal, and viewing Goa Lawah's (Bat Cave) thousands of upside down sleeping bats is an unforgettable experience.
Central Bali Trip
This takes us through the center of Bali to the beautiful waters of Lake Bratan, almost 4,000 feet above sea level. This being Bali, there is of course a temple - the Ulun Danu temple is set perfectly in the waters of the lake.
Other highlights of this trip are the bustling markets of Candikuning for a cornucopia of fruits and vegetables, and flowers and spices. Even more bustling is the Sangeh Forest, full of wild monkeys. Finally, we can also see the village were craftspeople create the gold-threaded ceremonial costumes that are a part of all of Bali's important rituals.
Northern Coast Trip
We cross through the chocolate, vanilla and coffee plantations on the mountains of central Bali to reach the cascading beauty of the Git Git waterfall, then follow the course of the river to Bali's ancient capital of Singaraja (meaning "Lion King").
Traveling along the coast, we the seaside village of Lovina and its volcanic-origin black sand beaches. Further up the coast and just a little inland are the Banjar Hot Springs, a perfect place to relax in the warmth of the natural pool.
Denpasar-Ubud Area Attractions
These sites are relatively near each other, so you can schedule a trip just for them or you can see one or two on the way out or back from one of the other trips.
In addition to the art galleries of Ubud, the nearby artisan villages offer a unique look at craftspeople creating their handiwork, with villages specializing in different art forms: Batubulan for stone carving, Celuk for silversmiths, Mas for wood carving, and Pengosekan for painting.
Also close by are the Sangeh and Alas Kedaton monkey forests and the Tanah Lot temple. Over 500 years old, Tanah Lot is perched on a huge rock a few hundred feet off the coast, leaving it surrounded by water at high tide.
